About the team

“Curiosity is the essence of human existence. ‘Who are we? Where are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going?’… I don’t know. I don’t have any answers to those questions. I don’t know what’s over there around the corner. But I want to find out.” (Eugene Cernan)

Eva knows how to perform true magic through design. When acting out her creative side, she not only incorporates various fashion trends, but is also determined to create something that is truly good for both people and planet. While Eva was working on an own collection for her studies at Cape Town College of Fashion Design she came across the lack of ethical and sustainable sourcing opportunities in South Africa. Instead of being discouraged, she decided to take a leap of faith and invest her heart and talent into creating these opportunities. Eva’s experience in working for two local small fashion labels as well as a big retail brand help her to reality check her big ideas and ambitions. Eva is also a true cat lady that believes in the principle of synchronicity; loving cats and doing good doesn’t seem to be meaningfully related, but it might as well be.

Rina is GreyC2’s energy child. She is deeply passionate about saving the environment and its people from the monotonous and destructive rut today’s capitalistic fast fashion brings along. First stuck in a commerce degree, she listened to the artist beating in her heart, and delved into graphic design and art direction instead. After finishing her BA in applied arts at Stellenbosch Academy of Design & Photography, Rina started working as a fashion buyer for a big retail brand which exposed her once more to the various challenges South Africa’s economy is facing. Rina’s creative spirit feels strongly connected to all the local artists. When she is not busy thinking about how to link these talents to the global market, she invites people to dance – with or without energetic hand gestures, she is convinced that we should all be able to dance without reason.

Sarah  is the overthinking dreamer of the team. She bubbles up one idea after the other and at the moment her conversation partner digests idea A she already talks about C and D. Despite her longing for absolute chaos, she acquired a BA degree in Law from the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. Just most recently, she learnt to appreciate the relevance of structural thought when applying her legal abilities for GreyC2's purpose. Sarah is also an Amani Social Innovation Fellow since August 2015 and spent six months in Nairobi, where she got completely allured by the different levels of chaos, liveliness and creativity. She enjoys philosophical debates and often gets lost in thoughts to the extent that the others worry about the potential mismatch between Sarah's reality and the lamppost or shrilling tram that dare to cross her ways.

Debbie Braunlich is the founder and feltmaster of Stonehill originals. Committed to a vision to producing local and organic felt fabric and designs since 2013, Debbie has been on a high speed roller coaster of finding her foot in-between ideals and global market reality. She not only makes wonderful jackets but also can turn any fabric "waste" into a new project: insoles, babyshoes, or even a felted arm cast; Debbie is a true creative at heart. Her never ending lightness and care for the people she works with are a daily source of learning and inspiration for us.
Nwabisa Tyobeka and Debbie from Stonehill Originals have been friends for years before Nwabisa joined Debbie in the pursue of felt art. Within only six weeks she learnt the foundations of felting and is honing this craft every day. She absolutely loves to work with her hands and is amazed by the process of turning simple fibers into the most stunning fabric pieces.
Liaan Delane is our magician 🎩 on board. With high detail orientation and extra care, she transforms separate fabric pieces into coats within a day. Although some of the designs required Liaane to get out of her comfort zone and master new skills, she did so with ease and curiosity. Her determination goes beyond Stonehill Originals and Robin Grey. She dreams of creating an own bag label and is also making skirts out of shweshwe fabric for both, her community, as well as the bigger retail market.

Angela
is the much-needed earth to people's sky: Structured, thoughtful, and equipped with a distinct ability to assess any plan through the critical lens of feasibility, she would make a perfect lawyer. But she didn't want to swim in familiar waters and earned a BA in Psychology of the University of Zurich instead, where she also applied her wits as research assistant for motivational psychology. At the moment, Angela successfully deepens her understanding of the human condition pursuing her masters, whilst eagerly awaiting the arrival of GreyC2's first product to her Swiss cupboard.  Angela upholds an innate curiosity for people's stories and can occasionally be caught examining her opposite with a Sherlock's look.
